About World Peace

Aug 4, 2007

If the minds of all the sentient beings in this world would come together in one place, then this globe would automatically have world peace, and everyone could live very well. This would be the happiest, most beautiful life together for everyone.

It is difficult to put all of the sentient beings‘ minds into the same place, but if we sincerely wish to have world peace, then it is possible to accomplish world peace. For example, there are seven billion distinct rivers in the world, and each river has its uniqueness and its own specific area; but, when those seven billion rivers flow, they all actually have only one destination and that is the ocean. Once each of those seven billion rivers reach the ocean, they all become one with the ocean, and then all the waters from those rivers, which are now in the ocean, have the same mind, same intention, and harmonize with each other, just as if all the other rivers were their own self.

Just like that, in this whole world all the sentient beings‘ minds seem to be different, but actually, when we have the mind towards Buddha (which means the absolute, the truth) we are all going to truth. It is our ultimate destination. It seems to be difficult but, as time goes by, we are all going towards the absolute truth.

If we take time and endure, and if our wish for world peace is very sincere, then world peace will be accomplished. Next month in our monastery, we are going to hang 192 flags, one for each country of the world, around the World Peace Kwan Se Um Bo Sal. We already have all the flags here, and at the moment we are in the process of constructing the flagpoles and stands for the flags. We will place each flag securely on the World Peace Kwan Se Um Bo Sal, so that we can have world peace, which is My wish and your wish also.

When I look back in the past, when I first went to Europe 24 years ago, every week I had to go to a different country and show My passport. At that time, I told My students, that My deepest wish is that Europe would become like one country, so that I do not have to carry My passport anymore. Many of My student were dumbfounded and did not believe what I said. But today as you can see, Europe has become one community. They are one community and still yet, each country respects the other countries‘ sovereignty and customs. They help each other, embrace each other, and harmonize with each other as one country.

It is similar with the United States. There are fifty states that make up one country, and each state respects the customs and laws of other states. My deepest wish is to have one flag for this whole globe. Of course, each country would still have its own flag and retain its own identity and uniqueness, but here would also be one flag that represents all the world countries as one nation.

Twenty-four years ago My wish came true; now I hope that My second wish, for one flag representing the world as one nation, will also come true.

Have you ever thought about what is most powerful in this world? One can answer in many different ways. What in this world is most powerful, does not hurt, harm, or take people’s lives, and instead, brings life and benefit to everyone? Again, one can answer in many different ways, but the answer is very simple. What is most powerful and helps to save everyone is wisdom.

Wisdom comes from the right concepts and a correct mind. This wisdom never makes enemies of others or has the mind to be revengeful. Wisdom goes into the world of enemy and revenge, and becomes close friends with the enemy. Wisdom becomes like family with the person who is revengeful.

There is an old saying: „In front of wisdom, even a knife melts.“ This means that in front of wisdom, everyone can harmonize, embrace, and help each other without fighting; even yesterday’s enemies can turn into best friends today. This is wisdom. Wisdom has the power to bring everyone together without fighting. But even wisdom cannot penetrate a person who is too ignorant, has a heavy karma, and does not want to listen to others, but instead always goes in his own direction.

That is why, even though wisdom is so powerful, we should always have great respect and appreciation for endurance. Endurance is most important. Our world has four seasons. When spring comes, the grass grows, and when winter comes, snow falls; everything has to go through nature’s sequence. The reason why wisdom can endure is that wisdom knows the facts and sequence of nature. When there is no endurance, there is no wisdom. Wisdom and endurance are always connected. When wisdom and endurance are together on the correct path, then everyone will automatically benefit.

There is another saying: „One wise person, for example, an ambassador or a foreign minister, can save millions of soldiers without fighting.“

What I am teaching you is not new. You heard about it before in either this or a past life. This daily teaching is simply to remind us so that we can be clear and live correctly in this and future lives. Believing this teaching is entirely the decision of the one who reads it.
